My assignment focused on the official Garden Party at Government House, where His Majesty met with the Captains of the Parish, representatives from across the Isle of Man community, and many of the guests invited in recognition of their service and contributions to Island life.

 

One of the highlights of the afternoon was watching the King spend time with pupils from Ashley Hill School, who were clearly delighted to be part of such a memorable occasion.

The King’s final engagement was a visit to Heroes On The Water Isle of Man, a charity organisation that supports veterans, emergency service workers, and their families by using water-based activities. The organisation’s work offers participants not only the opportunity to enjoy the outdoors but also valuable support for their physical and mental wellbeing.

 

One of the most touching moments of the day, which I had the privilege of capturing, came when His Majesty was reunited with 104-year-old Burma Star veteran James Fenton. The King expressed his “great pleasure” at seeing Mr Fenton again, having previously met him at the Royal British Legion’s national service commemorating the 80th anniversary of Victory over Japan Day last August. Their warm exchange was a reminder of the lasting respect shown to those who have served their country.

 

Being trusted as part of the official photography team for such an important occasion was both an honour and a responsibility.

I discovered that Royal visits move at an incredible pace, with fleeting moments that require concentration, anticipation and teamwork. It was a privilege to help document a day that will undoubtedly become part of the Isle of Man’s history.

 

It was an unforgettable experience, and I’m proud to have played a small part in preserving these moments for the Island’s historical record.
